GKM’s mission is to develop and support its artists. GKM is a dedicated and passionate company that is steadfast in its approach to spot, harness, develop and (in some cases) upstream its artists so that they find themselves amongst the brightest stars in the industry.
Its founder, Greg Kavanagh’s mantra, sums up GKM’s commitment to excellence: “If you deliver anything less than perfection, you’re not going to succeed.”
Greg has been in the music business all his life. As a young guitar player, he honed his skills studying with Lee Ritenour in Los Angeles, later touring and supporting or producing world class artists, including Aretha Franklin, The Spinners, Jennifer Warnes, Chrissie Hynde, Emmy- Lou Harris, M+M, Linda Ronstadt, Holly Cole, Marc Jordan, Amy Sky, Molly Johnson, Judy Collins, Gordon Lightfoot, The Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and many more.
By the time he was 30, Greg was composing and producing TV theme and incidental music for ABC, CBC, CTV, ATV and CBL. Greg is also not a stranger to TV commercials having worked on such accounts as Ford, Mattel, Hyundai, Pepsi-Cola, Kellogg’s, Mountain Dew, Kraft and other multinational brands.
In 1990 Greg started the record label/management company GKM, and began producing artists and securing label deals for them under this moniker. Since then Greg has overseen and guided many careers, from the studio to the stage. His international reputation and success in securing foreign deals has put him amongst the top of his field. With over 75 albums under his belt, Greg’s extensive experience and skills in producing and engineering, have earned him and his artists multiple Juno nominations, a Juno Award, MuchMusic Best Dance Video Award, multiple Smooth Jazz Award nominations, an ECMA for ‘Urban Artist Of The Year’, and multiple gold and platinum selling albums.
For over 20 years, Kavasongs (the publishing arm of GKM) has secured administrative rights for Canadian and international artists whose songs are featured on multi-platinum selling compilation albums and television shows.
Kavasound is where Greg still records and mixes most of his projects’ releases. Kavasound was built as an intimate state-of-the-art studio. With limitless audio tracks from Pro Tools HD and Logic Audio, along with high-end outboard and vintage tube gear, and a solid mic collection, Kavasound rivals anything that the bigger studios have to offer.
GKM continues to offer a ‘360’ model to its artists and clients, including artist development and support, full service production, live performance and national/international touring management, and is able to utilize its strong industry network adept at fully marketing and promoting each work to its fullest potential. GKM has a distribution arrangement with Believe Digital worldwide, and DEP/Universal for physical releases within Canada.
